Wagner and Me

One of my favorite series from the past was the "and me" series.  This series is about a kid who travels in time with baseball playing cards from the past by holding them for long enough.  But the only way that he can get back to present day is by using a present day card.  But the only way that he figures this out is from the book Wagner and Me.  This book was the first time travel that he had every made to meet Honus Wagner.  He didn't know that he had the power to travel back in time with his playing cards until he had held on to the card for long enough to end up going into the past.  Usually he went back in time to make money in the future but his main reason was to just simply meet these players.  When he met Honus Wager he had no clue what he was doing so when he had decided that he wanted to go back to present day he didn't know what to do.  But then he figured that he had to have a present day card but he didn't think that he had one....
I thought that this whole series was awesome because at the time that I had read this I was very into baseball and this was so interesting to me how he had traveled back into time to meet these amazing players.
Over all I love the author Dan Gutman who wrote this whole series and I wish that he would add more books to it but I don't think that he is going to because he has not written one in a while.

Masterpiece

Around the end of the summer I started to read a book called Masterpiece by  Elise Broach.  It is a book about a child who has his birthday and the whole party wasn't that great.  At the end of the party his dad who does not live with them anymore comes and gives him a present.  The present is some paper and a box of drawing materials.  His mom doesn't think that this is a good present because he is young and his dad is an artist that isn't that good though.
But he is only one of the main characters.  Really the main character is actually a little bug.  He is a bug that lives with his family underneath the sink.  They are trying not to be discovered by the family that lives in the house.
The night of the birthday the bug went up to the room of the son to give him a birthday present.  But he got caught up in his own world using the kids present from his dad to draw.  In the morning the mom discovered this drawing and she was so amazed that she told him to draw more.  But it was actually the bug and he has to live a lie.
I think this is kind of a weird story and it is a little childish but I kind of like it and I want to know how this book is going to turn out in the end when I finish it.

When You Reach Me

When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead is one of the best books I've read in the last couple of years and one of my favorite books and it's sometimes hard for me to find a book that I like a lot.  I read this book last year for English and I loved it.  This book is about a girl that keeps getting messages that someone is going to get hurt and she has to write like a story but she doesn't know where to start.  She finds out that someone is going to get hurt but she doesn't know who or when this is going to happen.  She has to figure out the mystery to save someone and also at the same time her mom is trying to win a game show for 20,000 dollars.
I love the way the book was written and it was a cool book because it referred to time travel a lot and the end of the story kind of came back to that time travel theme.  Also one of the coolest thing about this book to me was the cover.  It actually freaked me out a little because it made no sense.  But once you start to read the book you understand what the art of the cover is saying as you get further into it.
One of the things that the cover showed was there was a two dollar bill and underneath a mailbox was a shadow of a person and there was also a shoe.  All of the things that happen throughout the book start to unravel the mystery and also the cover.
I loved this book and I would read this again if I had the chance.  Once I started to get into the main part of the book I loved it and could not put it down.

One of my favorite books that I've read is The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick.  This was an amazing book with very good writing that is not hard to understand and is pretty fast paced.  The author did a great job on making the book so visual and not only with writing but half of the book was in pictures and that made it very fun to read and see what he is imagining about the book and not just what the book looks like to yourself.  It was pretty cool to see this way of showing a story.
This book main character of this book is Hugo.  Hugo lives alone secretly within a vent of a train station.  He is secretly doing his uncles job at the station which is making sure that the clocks are running correctly.  No one has figured out that his uncle had not been at the station and all of the clocks were run by Hugo.  Hugo has also found one of the things that his dad has been working on before he died in a fire and Hugo is trying to figure out what this robotic like person run by clocks does by putting trying to piece the whole thing together.  Over all I thought this book was great and was a very fun fast read and I'm reading more of the books written by Brian Selznick.

Right now I'm in the middle of reading a book called Hunger
Games.  The authors name is Suzzane Collins and she rihts this book
very well and easy to understand.  The book is about one girl and one
boy from each district fighting till their death on live TV, this is
called the Hunger Games.  At first when I heard about this book I
wanted to read it but I didn't know if I should because I thought the
the story seemed kind of disgusting.
The main characters name is Katiness.  She was one of the two
people that are going to be competing in the Hunger Games from her
district.  She is in district 12 and this is the poorest district of
all of them.  With her dad dead she is the one taking care of and
feeding her family by hunting for food and trading it.  So far I love
the book but it is a little bit slow and boring in the beginning
leading up to the games, but once I get to the games I think that I
will be reading it a lot faster and it will be more exciting.  I don't
know if this book is going to turn out that well because I find it
kind of weird that it is about killing other people, but I think that
it will turn out in a good way and I will really like the book when I
finish it and continue to read the other two books in this series.

Theodore Boone The Abduction

Picture taken by HomeWood pics on Flickr

This book is written by John Grisham, who is usually a writer of adult books about laws.  He has also made two books for children and I have read and enjoyed both of them.  The first one is called Theodore Boone the Kid Lawyer.  Theodore Boone the Abduction is the second of the two that he written for children.  I absolutely loved both of the books and couldn't put either of them down.  But I found the second one a little more interesting than the first.  The main character of both books is named Theodore Boone.  He is a thirteen year old, who loves everything that has to do with law.  The second book is about when Theodore and the the whole city finds out that his best friend April had been missing.  He had talked to her every night on the phone and she was very scared because her mom left her for a couple days and she didn't have a clue when she was coming back.  While the police were trying to track them down Theodore was also putting out flyers with his school to try to find her.  During the book there was always something that came up making you think that she might of died or she was scared and ran away or not.  Throughout the whole book it kept me wondering and was a little suspenseful because you never know what is going to happen or if she was alive or dead or where she was at all.  Overall this is one of my favorite books that I have read and I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a mystery.
